I proudly admit my unwavering allegiance to the Toronto Maple Leafs. A self-admitted die-hard Leafs fan. In other words, I somehow seek a perpetual cycle of hope dashed since 1967, ending in disappointment.
Reflecting on this “fandom”, I pondered the lessons it imparts about entrepreneurship and business.
- Managing Ups and Downs: A Leafs season mirrors life’s rollercoaster. We oscillate between envisioning the Stanley Cup parade and lamenting the departure of talented players due to perceived “attitude” issues or a mere 5 game slump. At any given moment, if you react to your emotions, you will most likely regret what you say or do in the near future.
- Persistence: Every year, I approach the season with undiminished hope, sometimes even more than before. Regardless of outcomes, I steadfastly support my team, knowing only one can claim the Stanley Cup.
- Belief: Success in life requires unwavering belief and passion. The Leafs’ motto, “the passion unites us”, resonates deeply. It’s not just about winning cups; it’s about the shared passion that binds us all. I firmly believe in order to win, you must have a “never give up” attitude. Clearly I haven’t given up.
As for this year’s team? Well, the perennial question lingers: How far will we go? Will we ultimately break the curse? Will it end in disappointment? Let’s find out as the playoffs begin.
Go leafs Go !!
